Welcome to my world the names Josh I’m 31 years old, I live in suburban Detroit, Michigan. This blog pertains to one of my favorite yet morbid or interesting hobbies depending on who you ask and that is “Grave Hunting”.
To give you a general summary of what grave hunting is. Grave Hunting, is the hobby where people such as my self, have an enjoyment of being in a cemetery, to photograph, or in some cases video record the gravesites of anyone who was famous, notable, and noteworthy. Grave Hunters, usually have a passion for the various forms of architecture, and history, found in the cemeteries they visit. Grave Hunters also have a fascination if not obsession for when a famous, or an otherwise notable person passes away.
There is a scientific word for grave hunting. The scientific terminology is Taphophile, another closely used word is Taphophilia. The word Taphophilia should NOT be confused with the word necrophilia which is the sexual attraction to corpses. There IS a difference.
Anyway getting back to my biography. Having an interest in organized crime and being a yearly visitor to the cosmopolitan city of Chicago. I originally started visiting the grave sites of notorious Chicago gangsters. I have an extensive list which keeps growing of gravesite locations of Chicago gangsters I’ve had privilege of visiting over the years and who I plan to visit in the future.
With a growing interest in history of all forms. And also residing in the suburbs of a major metropolitan area with a rich and enchanting history of its own (Detroit). I soon ventured to various cemeteries in and around the Motor City. After months of online research with the help of various websites. And several hours on a monthly basis spent at the Detroit Public Library main branch downtown looking through microfilm rolls of old newspaper obituaries and death notices. I soon took off into a world of historic Detroit with my own personal way of interpreting history by visiting the grave sites of the well-known, the infamous, & sometimes famous, personages of Detroit’s yesteryear.
The reason I created this blog was so I could showcase some of the grave sites I’ve visited in the form of photographic and and in some cases videographic methods of interpretation. While also binding together well thought out and informative reviews on grave hunting related books, & grave hunting & celebrity death related DVD’s. Not to mention the helpful tips & tricks for a better and enjoyable grave hunting experience.
Currently I’m making a name for my self in the grave hunting world. By connecting with others who share the same pastime as my self, and doing what I do best. The only downside with living on the east coast is that most of my friends who are fellow grave hunters/cemetery enthusiasts live in the greater Los Angeles area. In due time I hope to move to California. If your into cemeteries, celebrity death, grave sites of famous or notable people I’d really love to hear from you to do some networking.
Other things I enjoy doing in my spare time include but is not limited to: smoking cigars (I can’t get enough of the mild ones), doing historical research for various projects I’ve gotten my self involved with, surfing the net, hanging out with friends, doing lots of reading. I’m mostly into books related to (Military History, Organized Crime, Celebrity Death, Famous Murders, etc). I enjoy collecting grave hunting & general death related literature for research purposes in the form of books, death certificates, and things of that nature.
